The Girl Couldn'T Speak For Love Poem by Lindsay Elise

The Girl Couldn'T Speak For Love

It’s lodged in my throat
Like a bullet sticks to muscle
And makes a heart bleed
And makes a mind remote
Yours is the only name
That I allow myself to speak
Any others scar my lips
Any others set my tongue aflame
But it won’t escape
From the cage of my teeth
It stays and is chewed over
It stays and is morphed out of shape
By the time it finally leaves
It doesn’t sound the same
The letters were dropped off
The letters picked up by thieves
I’m sorry you don’t understand
You really wanted to hear it
I wanted it too
If only you knew

I like the way you describe - repeating some line structures, while augmenting the meaning, using contradiction, and building emphasis again - it's like a river gathering momentum from the mountains, until it breaks loose... it's a beautiful poem with a sense of craft! I would re-examine the the last four lines if I were you... have a great time writing, Lind!
