The Girl Who's Never Been Around The Block Poem by Susan Detlefsen

The Girl Who's Never Been Around The Block

She's been around the world
Umbria, Tuscany, Venice and Rome.
She's lived down under
And around and over
The hills and plains
And through the deepness of the desert.
She probably knows every tide pool and the name of every sea creature
on the Oregon coast.
She can make papillotes de crevette
The next day a country pot roast.

While her mate the probation officer
Gets the full search
She's the one who won't be frisked
while crossing the border from Tijuana
She's the girl next door and everybody's mamma
So innocent she can even grow marijuana.

She's been to Sevilla, tasted the mantequilla
Sailed with the Princess to Greece and Dublin town
She's been around the world
Knows how to fix Shepherd's Pie
And how to fix a clock.

She's been to London and Paris
Yes, she's been around the world
But she's still the one
Who's never been around the block.

Fred, is it you? I lost your contact info when I moved to the desert. I just bought a house here, and am moving from Portland. Downsizing, so I can travel, write, and paint! How are you?
