The Godman And The Greedman Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

The Godman And The Greedman

The Godman and the Greedman

Once came a man;
To our dear town,
Impressed by his Godly tone,
All referred him as a Holy man,
And we saw crowds,
streaming down to the man,
praying him to enrich their misfortune,
One of the inhabitants
Was very poor and living in slum,
Beside a star hotel as Crown,
Reached the Holy man with wishes,
Now I beg, my God, grant me a boon,
Despite my hard work,
My wife is not happy,
And my luck is all in vain,
For my loving dame,
I want queer things,
I feel shame to name,
That the hovel is hers and mine,
But she wants a cottage fine,
'May God fulfil your wish”, said the man,
Back home, he found her wife,
In a cottage fine
Happy to see the magic of the Holy man,
Months passed by and the woman sighed,
Now go and tell the Holy man,
We want a house large and grand,
Reached the man with another wish,
Now I beg, my God, grant me another boon,
My wife is always making a fuss,
That our cottage is not fit for hers,
“May God fulfil your wish”, said the man,
Back home, he found her wife,
In a larger house,
When a week passed, the woman sighed,
Now go and tell the Holy man,
That if he is really a God man,
Bless us with a palace,
Reached the man with the wish,
Now I beg, my God, grant us a palace like hotel Crown,
“Go home” the Holy man cried,
And see the end of foolish greed,
You’ll find your wife in her slum,
And there, till death, shall you and your wife remain.
