The Goldenrod Flower Poem by Walterrean Salley

The Goldenrod Flower

The goldenrod is lovely
In late summer or fall.
Some grow along the roadside
Distinguished and quite tall.

While some species do grow tall
Others are rather short
Oh how the goldfinch loves them
And wildlife of all sorts.

'Tis Kentucky's state flower,
And South Carolina's too.
'Tis donned Nebraska's state flow'r
In the book of blue.

And so pleasant to the eye,
It sports a lovely hue.
If you choose the goldenrod,
You'll never have to rue.

For the deer and wasps love them
And, too, the butterfly.
Their gold image radiates
Against the deep blue sky.

The goldenrod gets its shape
From the plume to the wand.
None accents a flow'r garden
Like the goldenrod can.
