The Grand Children Were Telling To Someone!

Rating: 5.0

Nowadays, with his meek moaning voice
..Keeping his palm just over his eyebrows,
A little bit shrinking of his eye lids of both eyes,

The people who come nearer and who go away,
..the people who comes nearer to his neck and ear,
and speak since ‘he suffers with lack of hearing',

The elderly man speaks with hands in shiver,
..with slight choking cough on and off for ever,
groaning due to the feeling of being isolated,
..agonizing along with cough destined,

The God of death comes with smile nearer every time
..and leaves him away at least twice a year!
That..
..Elderly man in that old age home..

Is said to be the father of the richest son
..Is said to be the father in law of the showy daughter in law,
The grand children who have come to see their grandpa
..Were telling to someone!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Hi,
This poem 'The grand children were telling to someone! ' is a translation by me of a Tamil poem by Poet KaruNA alias BaalaGangadharan.

Read the poem both in English and Tamil. A mixed emotion of pity and longing is been shown and a true portrayal of the younger generation's attitude towards the aged people has been shown.

Thanks for your nice comment. I came to Vadapudupet Ambur Sugar mills about 30 years back when my brother in law worked as a shift chemist.

Beautifully crafted poem..Hats off to you, Sir.. This is a pathetic situation of elder people in a country which was great in taking care of them in a joint family unlike many other countries..Let this poem reach someone who could make some change of mind to care the wretched old parents deprived so far!
