The Handsome Prince Poem by norman hale

The Handsome Prince

Way off in the distance
In a far away land
There once lived this prince
That nobody could stand

Oh he was worth a fortune
And was handsome as could be
But, had no love of his own
The one to set his heart a free

He lived way off to himself
And made such a mournfull sound
He paced his floors up and down
But, no princess could be found

Then came a knock upon his door
So, he ran to the door with glee
There stood a raggid young lady
The poorest sight to see

She had on no makeup
Her clothes were dirty and torn
He told her to go away
As he slammed the door and scourned

She begged him for food
For she hadn't eaten in days
But, he turned a deef ear
Because, he was set in his ways

Then she began to cry
That same ol mournfull tune
As she looked up towards heaven
Staring at the face of the moon

Soon the door began to open
As he motioned her to come in
She wiped away her tears
And gave him half a grin

From that day on
Both their lives was changed
Now ain't it funny how life
can make things re-arrange
