The Hellhound Poem by Robert Smith

The Hellhound

Temptation the hellhound
is hunting me down
as I dodge through the woods
backyards, alleys and streets

On my own best behavior
I search for a savior
from haunting reminders
of failures and cheats

Whether numbing of pain
or avoidance of shame
temptation is truly
life's greatest exam

Though I do what I should
and I try to be good
temptation the hellhound
will find where I am.
