The Hippo And The Gnu Poem by Stephen Katona

The Hippo And The Gnu

Rating: 3.5

There once was a young gnu,
That's wildebeest to me and you,
Halfway across the Mara River,
When a movement made her quiver.

Dismayed she saw a toothy smile,
Belonging to a crocodile,
Start to advance,
When by chance,
A hippo came to her aid,
Looking quite unafraid.

Harriet was her name,
A hefty looking dame,
Performing weighty ballet,
To scare a villain from his prey.
First bold defender,
Then nudges tender,
So we could see,
A gnu join family.

Harriet dared to help another,
What a brave mother!
To save a young gnu,
A true,
Warrior zulu.
