The Holy Week I Poem by Dr John Celes

The Holy Week I

Rating: 5.0

Palm Sunday tells us about the day
Of Jesus' triumphant entry of Christ
Into Jerusalem city
Upon a donkey brought for it
As people lined and waved palm frond
And cried with joy, ‘Son of David,
King of kings, hosanna, AMEN! '
They placed the olive branches on
The ground and spread the cloths they wore,
As Jesus humbly rode to town
To show He was Messiah, King!
The man who was the Son of God
Felt anguish within mind and heart
Of impending death on the cross,
And sufferings for mankind's sins.
It was the will of His Father
In heaven who had sent Him down
To earth born from a Virgin's womb
And wear the robe of poverty.
Christ tried to pray and cry to Him
When fear seized him so many times;
His humanness gave him the fear
Of suffering and death on the cross.
But obeisance to Father God
Stood always before his both eyes;
His mission upon earth turned live
Reminding him he had to die.
The Church celebrates Holy Week
As Scriptures foretold death of Christ
And bells have fallen all silent
And altar has been stripped of hues.
Christ washed the feet of Apostles
Enacted on Maundy Thursday,
He showed his immense love for them
And humbleness, they must too share.
