The Hummingbird's Prayer Poem by Ahmed Fouad Negm

The Hummingbird's Prayer

In your marvel, the heavens orbit
The years are long
But how cautious are you!
You that attach the soul to life
Love is yours, eternity is yours!

Annihilation! To those that know you not
O people! O spirit of eternity
Power is yours, eternity is yours!

The night is your solution
As the morning unravels
And the thirsty sea is weary
The arrow strayed
Shot the thirsty
You're the decent, but we inquire

Judas betrayed, but how many Judases sold Christ?
Judas could not last forever
And you cannot wound a wounded country
A million Judases betrayed the promise and were defeated
You are all that remains
In the fields
And your sickle
Brushed the wheat from above Christ's blood
And you are the wounded
The doctors come to ask
How grand!
Who fathered you?!
Who bore you?!
How noble!
O people, you are the heartbeat of existence.
Eternity is yours
Sovereignty is yours
Power is yours
Power is yours
