The Illusionist Poem by Jocelynn Halbauer

The Illusionist

Rating: 4.5

Gather one and all
And Ill tell you what I know
About the great illusionist
And her magic show

The illusionist is famous
For many image acts
She seems so happy with herself
But its confidence she lacks

She makes you think she’s happy
When really that is wrong
She’s says she will not fall again
But she’s been down all along

She makes you thinks she’s pretty
But it’s never her face
She makes you think that she belongs
But she is so out of place

She makes you think she’s gotten
Over the memories and things
But they still haunt and the still bleed
They still bite and sting

She makes you think she’s strong
But she’s breaking down inside
Wishing she could fall away
Dig into you and hide

She wants it not to hurt
All those little things you do
She knows it’s dumb to reminisce
She can’t help it... Because its you

She doesn’t dare speak of it
Her chameleon like changes
When she’s around others
Her face just rearranges

One day maybe she’ll tell the truth
Maybe she won’t be filled with fear
But until the day her mask falls off
We all watch and gather here

So welcome one. And welcome all
Find a seat. Find a row.
Open the curtains. Turn off the lights
Its time for her great magic show
