The Inevitable Progress Poem by Joinel Jeune

The Inevitable Progress

I see progress.
Looking at history and today,
A continuous progression of change
Measured not by a ruler
But, by a length of time.
Consisting of determination
Perseverance, endurance, hope
And the heart of it all, love.
Yet accompanied by hostility
Hardships, inequality, demoralization
And the darkness of it all, hate.
Yet, progress penetrates through it all.
From the cotton fields of Texas
To the Oval office in Washington
From Toussaint L’Ouverture
To Sir Lynden O. Pindling
From Sojouner Truth to Rosa Parks
From Frederick Douglas
To Martin Luther King Jr.
From Da Vinci to Picasso to Amos Ferguson.
From Phillis Wheatley to Maya Angelou
From Saul to Paul.
Progress, the inevitable.
I've read it, I've heard about it
I've seen it, I’m experiencing it
And I’m happy to be part of it.
