The Journey Poem by Anthony Domine

The Journey

Walking along this road called life,
I've found no greater experience, nor journey.
All the people, and all the places..
Over the years, have no doubt changed me.

Things were so simple it seems,
Back when prime in my youth.
Beliefs were so strong,
Unwavering, never questioning the truth.

Content in my ways,
Part of me always sought more.
To join the pinnacle of minds,
With boundless knowledge to explore.

Foolish was I then,
Seeking pure truth and skill.
Not knowing the real price of wisdom,
Would demand my mind to rebuild.

Clinging to the past,
Yet trying to accept the new.
The mind was dragged to the deepest abyss,
Battling itself relentlessly- as it grew.

Driving me into madness,
Or so it seemed then-
A sliver of hope appeared,
One that may bring the madness, to an end.

The answer was simple,
Yet harder than anything.
Finding the cure to an illness,
Or understand its reasoning.

To gain peace in mind,
Only three things were needed
Was the skill of control
The knowledge of madness
-and the will to not be defeated.

As the veil slowly lifted,
A slow soothing calm took over.
No longer in pain,
Or needing an answer.
The mind was finally at rest,
And could begin to recover.

The journey is not over,
As it is often said-
This life has only just begun,
And there is so much more to understand and explore..
