The Kid Poem by Jason Murak

The Kid

I promised I wouldnt write anymore about this
As soon as I made that statement, I truly did doubt this
Acted as if i took it lightly, on the surface
On the inside, I was truly nervous
i know you didnt mean to do this on purpose
But now my heart is broken, seemingly without a purpose
So i write, my mind it will smooth
I sit back and watch as you jump in your groove
I try to jump in but your telling me move
Now I lose
You choose your words carefully
Make a Joke darefully
You say we can be friends, and you'll always be there for me
Cut the B.S. all this you could spare for me
Wait
Maybe its better now, of stress I am rid
STOP WORRYING ABOUT LOVE JASON, your just a kid
Im a kid who writes poems, No one will ever know em'
Im just a kid who thinks he's got a lot he wants to show em'
Im just a kid who wants to be on that TV show Def Jam
and Im just a kid who will probably have to resort to the next plan
Im just a kid, poetry is what I need
Im just the only kid in my school who doesnt brag about weed
Im just a kid, developed from a seed
who got introduced to writing and started a new breed
Im just a kid in the back, trying to take the lead
but these blockades and challenges are trying to impede
Im just a kid, with the passion and faith to overcome
Im just a kid, all of us united as one
Im just a kid who cant stand the racists
Im just a kid who is always doodling on his paper in the extra places
Im just a kid preaching 'Life is a Beautiful Struggle'
trying to figure out myself, where I fit in the puzzle
Im just a kid who seems to have lost a few pieces
Im just a kid who's wondering where all the peace is
and I write a lot, and I read what is written to me
But im just a kid so, you dont have to listen to me
