The King Beneath The Crown Poem by Daniele Cerasoli

The King Beneath The Crown

I once read a book
That left me to wonder:
How can we not see
All of society's blunders?

Greed, status, and wealth
It's all people care about
Yet all that we need
Is what we can't live without.

The fixation on popularity
It's all that people seem to see
Never focused on others, but
What is only good for Me.

So why are we so shallow?
So blinded by the haze?
So focused on the rainbow
With a landscape still to gaze?

Searching for the answer
But one still cannot be found
Because people cannot see
The king beneath the crown.

We say it just happened
Because we just can't say no
But really, we don't want to be
In the current, fighting the flow.

There is still some hope
That society can change
A static green light
That dangles just out of range.

Whenever that day comes
When people realize what they need
I won't stop and listen
I'll just continue to read.
