The Life Of A Flower Poem by Scarlett Treat

The Life Of A Flower

Rating: 5.0

At break of day,
When, with pearly white light,
The sun
Comes out to play,
I unfold my petals
To catch the light,
And bloom,
Just for your pleasure,
Throughout the day.

But at night,
When the light
Has gone, and
I can only see
The shine of the moonlight,
And it is time for me to sleep,
I do not mourn nor weep,
But simply fold my petals in,
And, with the kiss of the air of night,
I sleep.

A beautiful poem thank you Scarlett. I believe the poem linked flowers with life - especially my own sadness in losing my wife. It prompted me to jot down a few words of my own so I send them on to you. Barry Laws FLOWERS - JUST LIKE US A flower begins its life as a seed Just like us. It requires water, nourishment and warmth Just like us. It needs gentle love to propagate Just like us. It unfolds its petals to show off its beauty Just like us. When a flower is sick, it needs special care Just like us. And when that flower fades away, is it mourned? Yes, because it is just like us. And so, we select another flower, a special flower To accompany our loved one on their last journey Why? Because, after all, they are just like us. Barry Laws 22.6.2015

In searching for a poem that had relevance for a remembrance flower ceremony I was to attend, I was fortunate enough to find this one - The Life of a Flower by Scarlett Treat. I felt that it simply related flowers and people and brought back deep memories of my wife, who, with the kiss of the air at night, I sleep. It prompted me to write some words of my own, so I thank you. Barry Laws
