The Long Weeping Hours Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Long Weeping Hours

Women like me have loved before
and spent many hours in waiting
for the time to pass into nothingness,
and those hours to be abating.
The heart that’s been abused for too long
feels it’s been misused and the song
it needs to hear each day
is absent and to its dismay
never seems to heal.

But women like me do not give up.
They wait and temper, but not abandon
the love they feel in their body.
They wait for it to simmer down
and somehow, someway oddly
a thought of the nothingness will drown
the sorrow and on all the tomorrows
she knows she’ll be alright.
And her heart will heal.
