The Lost Soul Poem by Rolland Heiss

The Lost Soul

I have been too reserved
Spent too many days in fear
Taken less than I deserved
Too tightly I adhere...

To this prison of my own design

My God, how I long to dance!
To fall in love with life
Kiss her madly and perchance
Win her for my wife...

But when she comes near I look away

What kind of fool am I?
Passing up the golden hour
Dreams are all that get me by
But life my dreams devour...

And my soul suffers the hunger pangs

You who do not suffer so
Oh, you who know the way
Kindly show me where to go
And help me sieze the day...

I do not know how to live...
I've never had the courage to try.
