The Love And War Quandary Poem by Dr John Celes

The Love And War Quandary

Rating: 5.0

I leave my love behind!
I’m called to go to war
In land forlorn, afar;
I’ve lost my peace of mind.

There is no time to tell;
The order came today;
I had nothing to say;
I hope all things end well.

I could not see her face!
I could not bid ‘good-bye! ’
I feel her heart so nigh,
Yet, I must reach my base.

There was no time to kiss;
There was no last embrace;
Her face is like a haze!
Things have gone quite amiss.

The war began quite fast;
I didn’t know what to do;
Our marriage fixed is due;
’Tis now a dream of past!

I know she will much cry;
’Twill be a shock to her;
I know she cannot bear;
I could be hurt or die!

How treacherous wars can be!
You have to fight the foe;
There is no other go;
The risk of death is free.

Will I return alive?
Could I come back or die?
Would I the wed-knot tie?
Could fate to gloom me drive?

There is no time to kiss!
I must be gone for now;
Her heart’s has great sorrow;
Will I meet doom or bliss?
