The Love I Want Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

The Love I Want

The love I want
Is not that which does haunt
But the one from above
From someone as innocent-looking as a dove

All I want to get from you
Is love that is true
From a heart that is ready
To give love that is steady

And what I cherish
Is love that will last
Not the one that will break and perish
Like iron that was cast

Of course I ain't in a hurry
For love sweet as though reasoned with curry
For to tell, he has a story
The one who, patiently waiting, got the glory

So to you I turn
From you I hope to learn
For you yearn
Hoping you won't spurn

I hope you know
That to many I will be a foe
For not saying Ciao
To the one far more important than chow

But here I am-daring.
So much so, my heart, I'm baring
Is it not glaring
That for you I don't stop caring?

For Into that desirable cart-
That is your heart.
Into it I hope you take me
'Cos your 1&ONLY I want to be

I know it's been long
Since you chose not to be dated
But since rejection is serrated
Please don't make me beg for long

Your spurn will make me dejected
And feel rejected
Hence I pray I am selected
As your only elected

Because it is for you that I feel
Emotions that are real
Wounds I know will heal:
From my distance your love seems real

Even then, get this one thing right:
This poem is not meant to be funny;
The reason I haven't slept tonight:
I keep imagining you calling me honey!
