The Mail I Kept Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Mail I Kept

I shall mail you a card to say
how much I’ve thought of you today.

I shall probably lose my will to do this
and hold it to my lips to kiss.

This one act will keep me sane,
replace my loneliness, replace my pain.

I shall mail a letter to you someday
so that you can never say

that my mind has lost its thoughts of you.
My letter will be thorough and when it’s through

I’ll probably keep it from being mailed.
I’ll understand that again I’ve failed.

Over and over shall I try again?
Maybe, but I don’t know when.
