The moment when sea and skin met Poem by Michael Speier

The moment when sea and skin met

found ourselves on the back of the whale
later unquiet the mastiff's
tail strikes the kitchen table

the cat's already here too
the lethal flower
lurches in the window
no-one dries the sweat
of the rage-spent afternoon

smoke of the stars
is crumbling that face
where you're touching me
no-one's ever been
not even I myself
