The Moments After Poem by Erika Wingo

The Moments After

Rating: 5.0

In the moments after you had gone
It seemed as though time had
Gathered together
To stand beside me,
Perfectly still
Waiting expectantly for me
To cry or scream
To speak or just to breathe
My first breath alone
Without you
Loneliness poured itself empty into me
Filling all of the spaces
Sorrow had missed

In the moments after you had gone
The world suddenly felt strange
Colorless and cold
All that I once knew to be true
Became truths withheld and secrets untold
The noises of life whispered softly around me
Careful not to disturb the
Fragile awareness
That insists it is real
That I see but don't recognize
The things I touch, I can't feel
What once was is no more
Now each and every moment
Consists of the moments after
And not one moment before

Swimming in the sea of sadness yet bursting with a beauty that is refreshing. Evidence of a significant loss. Was it written for you mother? If it were, then read my poem A fallen Tree which was also written when my mother died. Well done my friend!

'The sorrow of loss' has been poignantly portrayed in this beautiful poem. I wonder how it could miss everybody's eyes, not a single comment is here. 'My first breath alone Without you Lonliness poured itself empty into me Filling all of the spaces Sorrow had missed'....An outstanding expression of emptiness and sadness! 'Now each and every moment Consists of the moments after And not one moment before '....A classic poetic thought! Well done,10/10.
