The Muse Returns Poem by Jonathan Goldman a.k.a JGthepoet

The Muse Returns

I said I would not write poems again,
Five hundred was my lot,
But the Muse has again returned,
My wishes are not worth “a jot”.

Why has my brain into “Poetry Mode” gone,
Thinking in rhyme and scan,
Other pursuits I wish to do,
My Time, I wish to plan.

I’ve registered to study again,
An Open University Degree I’ve planned,
Poetry I wish to take a back seat,
No more verse in rhyme and scan.

I’d put my Mind in “Poetry Mode”,
A “one off” poem I’d wish to write,
But can a poet turn off The Muse
If the words form daily inside?

This poem may not be my last,
I know I must have an open mind,
I’ll see what the future has in store for me,
Hopefully my thoughts will be kind.
