The Night And Sentry Poem by Deep Paul

The Night And Sentry

Rating: 5.0

Sitting in my little crammed cabin of pine
I was lost in dreary thoughts of mine
Oh my soul I don't get you!
Where you go and when you rest?

Chiming bells arouse me from thoughts
A feel of distress rose in my throat
The fading sunlight granted me a smirk
It was time for my evening work.

First thing to do is to go to the clerk
There he makes me sign in a ledger on his desk
I took my gun and walked to the gate
It's the place where 'they' make people wait.

There comes the noise of my friends from barracks
They cool their bodies with splashes from barrels
I can see my boss in the dwindling twilight
He strolls there with his dog in delight.

Many hours went past one after another
The night creaked and groaned and began to deter
Oh, I am left alone in this eerie blackness!
No! I'm not alone, I have got a mind which blathers!

I was lost in the thoughts of my own
Lost in the streets where my mind lingers on
Oh my soul I don't get you!
Where you go and when you rest?

I sat in the feeble moonlight thinking of my duty
Will I ever be able to understand it's beauty?
But I do love my job as a sentry
Since I have tried very hard for this entry.

When each night begins it reminds me of something,
That, I have nothing!
But my blathering mind and blackness of these nights!

There is nothing forced nor feigned in these testimonials of dedication to his work as sentry here.......job is a job whatever it may be, what really is needed is love and loyalty for the work one assigned for.......well thought out and very well scripted........thanks for saring....10

Hi Deep, I just read your poem. Its beautifully written. The long, lonely night, a watchman keeps vigil of a military camp. Who can stop the flood of thoughts that comes galloping down like a splash of rain? ....10
