The Ocean Between Us Poem by Asma Khan

The Ocean Between Us

Rating: 4.0

I wonder why do I remain undefined
by the laws of love and loss
in the course of time where
all answers are written

What if all that I dreamt was true
and there is no existence of you
with a choice of yes or no
simply an option of cut and paste

Do I really need to fill the emptiness
caused by your departure in a heart
full of hopes and dreams of lies
with no end to join anywhere

Why do I keep harping the same song
you taught me on one fine day
that takes me no where but
at the doorsteps of hopelessness

Who rings the bells of my thoughts
on a silent night in the deserts of vagueness
where I open the windows to a sunshine
that brings me your name and your fragrance

Can I find an answer to the loose ends
left untied by your mercy and wishful thinking
and mend my thoughts to live for the moment
of true happiness and cheers

I wish I could fill in the blanks
caused by the distance between us
Alas! some gaps are like oceans
too huge to overcome in one lifetime!
