The Ocker Poem by Brenda Greenwood

The Ocker

Heres tio the ocker our won true blue
this is dedicated just to you
She'l be right and good on ya mate
grab a beer and put it on the slate
True Ausie ocker is as good as his word
To the stranger he may sound absurd
She'l be apples means its quite OK
Is that fair dinkum youl hear him say
He'l say seeya lata, but dont wait,
seeya later isjust an expression mate
Sheila's are girlfreinds, no not a joke,
A joker well thats just another bloke
He can spin a yarn and never get jack
relating tales of the Aussie outback
So proud of his country wild and vas
Committment to mates a lifetime lasts
He loves the cricket and Aussie Rules,
in these pursuits he will suffer no fools
The ocker is in all Ausies no fear,
when enjoying a tinny, were having a beer,
Flat out just like a lizzard drinking,
Is not what the untrsained is thinking,
It means very busy, no time to spare
If we dont give a rats, means we dont care
He klives for Saturday sports on the telly
If he is sad, he's lower than a snakes belly
If he tells you he fancies a cold tube,
He wants to give his throat a lube,
He is freindly and colorful really true bleu
He wont bid you goodbye more likely oorooh
Lets hail all the ockers we know their worth
Honest straight forward and salt of the earth
