The One You Say Is Ordinary Poem by Francis Duggan

The One You Say Is Ordinary

The one you see as ordinary not ordinary to me
For there is much more to her more than the eyes can see
Not beautiful to look at but beauty is skin deep
Her mind a fountain of wisdom and knowledge and such things don't come cheap.

The one you say is ordinary you do not even know
Except a smile from her in passing and a friendly hello
Since that is all you know of her your interests are elsewhere
In the brown eyed one lovely to look at with brown shoulder length hair.

The one to you that's ordinary you only know by name
You dismiss her with a silly smirk saying her looks won't bring her fame
You are a bit like me in ways deceived by your own eyes
Than us she's far more intelligent more knowledgeable and wise.

The one you say is ordinary you see her every day
She may not look attractive but she's not ordinary in any way
I know her better than you and it does seem to me
That the one you see as ordinary in fact is extraordinary.
