The Open Road (Part One) Poem by Perry Sophocleous

The Open Road (Part One)

To my unforeseen destruction, I leave for a new
An exciting new life for me, but not for us two
Two years of walking, I have gained no ground
My retraceable steps, impossible to be found

No food no water, this has become the norm
Boiling days and freezing nights add to the storm
My breath creates a cloud, my sweat stains the sands
Was this all done, by the work of my hands

The darkness takes hold and whispers, 'caught ya'
A cannibalistic suicide is sure to be the slaughter
Is this really the life I was meant to live
Live or die, evolution states only one can win

My past my future, mirages in the distance
A brief smile appears, until it collides with the instance
I take refuge in a nearby cave, contemplating tomorrow
I hope this story continues, Oh, so this is sorrow...
