The Pain Of Not Being You Poem by Michael Shepherd

The Pain Of Not Being You

Rating: 1.6

How can you say,
I never felt in possession of my life
until this moment, to
someone who has not felt
the each, the both?

or, I shall remember this moment
for the rest of my life
not for what it is but
for what it may yet mean?

a lifetime with a pen
may alleviate this pain
somewhat
while I write

It came out of trying to imagine the feelings of a 'lifetime career poet' always trying to stretch the boundaries of what may be said... not me!

Dear Michael, there is such melancholy in your words, and a little anger perhaps too. It makes me sad...
