The Painting Poem by Marianne Bilicki Remishofsky

The Painting

I paint the picture of my soul
As a ship that sails the sea,
A ship that knows not where it is,
Or who it'll come to be.
I paint the boat that lets it drift,
I draw the mast so tall,
I paint the sail the brightest white,
And hope it doesn't fall.
I paint the sea that carries me,
Both stormy and serene;
I paint it deep as life will be
When I want to drift along.
I paint the sky with clouds of gray,
That turn the peace to strom,
That build a wind with forceful gusts,
Which leaves the ship forlorn.
