The Pastor's Muscles Poem by Sameer Daniel Gardner

The Pastor's Muscles

The children reached the pastor's house before time,
Sent by adoring parents to learn lessons divine.
They rang the bell and walked through the door,
And sat quietly on the drawing room floor.

A strong wind blew
And the study room's curtain swept aside.
It attracted the little eyes,
And they all gazed inside.

The Pastor stood looking for his specs,
Wearing a pair of shorts and a vest.
And their surprise they could not suppress,
When the children saw his bulging biceps, calves and chest.

A young girl said 'Perhaps God gave him those muscles,
to keep the devil at bay! '
But the children brushed that thought away,
Because their loving pastor so peaceful and serene,
Could not be visualized in a violent scene.

A young boy at the back had something to say,
And that took the bewilderment away.
Each little head began to nod as they reached an accord.
The children learnt that day,
'Even strong men need God.'
