The People Should Not Pay Poem by Saiom Shriver

The People Should Not Pay

If a billionaire
trashed an
unwealthy landlord's
apartment
leaving pools of
arsenic, lead, mercury,
pyrite etc. which
destroyed the tubs
and sinks
should the landlord
pay?

San Juan and Kinross
corporations
left orange sludge pools
with countless
toxic metals
behind.
Why should the
US people pay
through the auspices
of the EPA?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Note: Kinross is a huge Canadian international mining conglomerate with mines in several countries.. An exec with the San Juan Corporation, owner of the Gold King Mine, said Kinross had been the original cause of the Animas River accident.

For many years Kinross, San Juan, and countless other mine operations (20,000 abandoned mines in Colorado) have killed fish and other aquatic and land creatures in the Upper Basin of the Animas River and other areas of Colorado.

They left their waste in a dangerously unsafe place, killing fish and other species in at least 3 states and Mexico.

Ralph Nader: paraphrased 'One Canadian mining company was given mineral rights to a massive chunk of land in the West for five dollars an acre' 'Privatized profit. Public loss' Loan shark capitalists.control our government.
