The Play Of Light Poem by William Messent

The Play Of Light

I love to watch the play of light
As I look out across the bay
On moonlit waters clear and bright.

It's magic on a summer's night,
This feeling, oh, I cannot say:
I love to watch the play of light.

Upon the shore, waves shining white,
Rolling, splashing as they play
On moonlit waters clear and bright.

Now spangled stars come into sight
To mark the ending of the day.
I love to watch their play of light.

So soon the moon is at its height
Wherefrom it shoots a single ray
On moonlit waters clear and bright.

She sails away just like a kite -
Oh please don't go, can you not stay?
I love to watch the play of light
On moonlit waters clear and bright.
