The Poor Growing In Numbers Poem by Francis Duggan

The Poor Growing In Numbers

A thousand poor people for every millionaire
The poor of the World have their crosses to bear
In climate change more economic refugees
Low lying Countries now threatened by the rising seas
In slums of big Cities and Lands far away
Thousands of people are dying of hunger every day
The Homeless, the Stateless, the oppressed and downtrod
The have nots of this World of the lesser God
All people are equal you do hear some say
But the question one must ask is equal in what way
We are equal in that we are all born to die
But as for equal in life well that does seem a lie
The poor growing in numbers it does seem to me
And climate change will bring us more poverty.
