The Porch Poem by Patricia Grantham

The Porch

Rating: 5.0

As I rock back and forth in my chair with ease
The trees began to sway with the sweet Summer breeze
Just thinking about what could have been
Deep thoughts of the things hidden deep within

I begin to ponder the events of the past
Ever so long ago they never seem to last
Memories of things past are only for a season
Whatever the problem theres always a reason

I stopped rocking a while and began to think
Life is for living, humanity is but a link
Your favorite hobby maybe reading, walking or fishing
Whatever your reason maybe for living
Enjoy what you can it is better than wishing

The earth and its wonders are created to enjoy
To love and cherish and not to destroy
As the day began to fade and my rocking cease
Will the world continue to exist if there is no peace?

Enjoy life while we can! Anxiety about the future is not going to make things any better, but really worse! Engaging in a pastime of one's choice will definitely help us rid of our nagging thoughts! Life is for us to love and cherish! A beautiful message that sinks into the depths, Patricia! Really enjoyed!

I liked this - - do a lot of soul searching myself - often on the patio!

Lovely rocking in the porch and reminiscing and the conclusion is very apt. Brilliant Patricia!

When you ponder sitting in the porch on a rocking chair, you conclude Life is to love and cherish and not to destroy. Beautifully said.

My poem What Wishes? is a short verse, similar to this one, that you might enjoy.

Beautiful, Patricia. It makes me think of a person who is rocking more and more frantically, thinking unhappy thoughts about the past and what could have been, and suddenly stops rocking and comes to her senses, lol. THEN, she starts rocking again, restfully and peacefully. I liked the rhythm.
