The Possession Of Love (Section 8 Of Thirukural) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

The Possession Of Love (Section 8 Of Thirukural)

71. Is there any bolt to shut up love? Drops of tears begin
from the eyes of the lover and betray the love within.
72. The loveless own all the wealth to themselves alone.
The loving ones give to others even their very bone.
73. The fruit of the union of soul and body shows
"the lovely fusion of love and life ", as the saying goes.
74. Love makes humans to love and share.
And in turn it yields excelling friendship rare!
75. The happiness on earth and the heavenly bliss above
are the results of tranquil life of love.
76. ‘Love sustains virtue alone', the naive say.
To purge the guilt from the mind, it helps in its own way.
77. As the scorching heat, the boneless worms, fries,
Virtue, the loveless beings, mauls and dries.
78. Life without love at heart thrives
as withered trees in deserts shoot up tender leaves.
79. When the heart is devoid of love, what is the use
of having outward limbs in health profuse?
80. It is a live body which has love ingrained.
Otherwise, it is a skin-covered skeleton being love drained.
