The Pounding Sea Poem by Bill Simmons

The Pounding Sea

Rating: 5.0

Have you ever seen the pounding sea
As the tides crash on shore
Have you ever seen a falling bird
That's lost it's will to continue on anymore

I can see her now just outside
She is playing with her friends
Mama can we stay awhile
She was only ten

So young so many questions why
She would ask me about life
I said to her all things that lived
One day too all must die

One day while in her teens
From this world she slipped away
Have you ever felt the pounding sea
Felt the wrath of great tidal waves

Did you ever simply wake up to find
Your whole world is left behind
The heavens know I miss her still
The daughter that once was mine

Have you ever lost the will to live
Did you ever lose someone you love
Although we so still miss them so
They wouldn't want us to ever give up

Did you ever wish you could have said good-bye
Until my love we meet again one day
Have you ever felt the pounding sea
Or felt the wrath of great tidal waves.

Intense sadness in this poem. But a fine and perfectly written dedication to that poor girl. All my best wishes to you. Seán
