The Pretender Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Pretender

At the party
He is the bashing type
Gorgeous
Fashionable
Renaissance man
With a taste
For flare

Ask him about his
Business in the u.s.
He gives you the
V sign

'Business is good!
Lots of perks coming!
İ do most of the traveling
The board takes care
Of its complexities' he said.

The sparkles of champagne
And the artistic smoking
Expensive communication
Gadgets
He got it all

But this i have known
The truth: his wife left him
Business was lost
Mortgage house foreclosed
And for sale
His children hate him
And divorce is in the offing
Nothing about
Properties now

None of my business somehow
Kept my mouth shut
Except this
Poem: my confidante.
İt can keep a secret
Uphold the truth and cannot
Hurt...
