The Promise Poem by Mary Roach

The Promise

When you said you loved me
A promise then was made
That we would stay together
And our love would never fade

You said you’d stay at my side
Through sickness and in health
Then why when I look around
I’m standing by myself

Our relationship is a battle
Sometimes big or small
Still we fought like children
Through and through it all

Just so you know I loved you
But I can’t believe you slayed
The thing that meant the most
The promise that you made
