The Promised Land For Both Jews And Palestinians Poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen

The Promised Land For Both Jews And Palestinians

Jews and Palestinians
Share the common story of exile
Of wandering in the desert, uprooted
Slaughtered, silenced, driven out!

They both share the common hope
To dwell in the Promised Land,
Flowing with milk and honey
Living in peace and prosperity!

Not by the Mandate of Partition by Balfour
Not by agreements of manipulative coercion
Not by the Intifida of hate and destruction
Not by the tentacles of fear and terror
Nor by the summons of super powers
Around negotiating tables
Can bring Jews and Palestinians closer
To the portal of their longed Promised Home.

But it is in seeing themselves
as one people with their equal rights
in their journey to their own liberation.
It is in ceasing to mark their stones
Of generations by much waste of blood.
It is in marching together
To the Holy Mountain of their Promised Land
Where they can lay down their weapons.

I wrote this poem sometime ago. I am posting this on tweeter now when violence is again escalating in Israel and Palestine. While Palestine sends weapons to attack Israel towns and cities, Israel retaliates with her own weapons against Palestine, and the number of deaths is being tallied. There is no end to this great malady and tragedy between these wonderful people who have decided to hide their beauty and wisdom by the rule of weapons! Simply tired of this conflict that has dragged on through generations....
