The Quest Poem by Supriya Mothay

The Quest

Rating: 5.0

Groping in this darkness, trying to find my way,
What is happening here, what is this play?
What am I looking for, what is this thing that I lost?
It must be very precious, and not just by its cost.
I turn around and see the path taken,
But I can’t go back, bridges are broken,
Left, right or straight ahead, where do I go?
My lips are bleeding, sweat creases my brow.
My family is with me, but like a distant dream,
How is it I can be with them, hear them scream?
But they can’t help me with this quest of mine,
What am I looking for again, what should I find?
I sit where I am, trying hard to think,
Concentrating hard, not daring to blink,
Where am I? And what am I to do?
This seems so familiar yet seems untrue.
Where is this corner? Is it a dead end?
What should I do? Should I look over the bend?
Blinding light up ahead helps me to seek,
This place is my mind and I hear it speak.
“What you see behind is your glorious past,
That you cannot relive, neither will it last,
That you see ahead is the choices you make,
Your family is with you in the decisions you take.
Choosing others over yourself is your choice,
Even if you talk for yourself or be others’ voice,
Life is a mixture of many things, some right, some not,
Love and sacrifice are only few things among the lot.”
The light vanishes and I open my eyes,
My mind spoke to me; I heard its voice,
I’ve played different roles, in my glorious past,
But it’s me that I need to find, me that is lost.
