The Real Definition Of Goodbye Poem by Gary Fellows

The Real Definition Of Goodbye

A very personal expression; I think this one speaks for itself.

Goodbye is for now
Goodbye is for then
When it’s over
You know also it’s when

If it’s in anger
If it’s in despair
You have to be certain
You have to be fair

Be true to yourself
Be true to your friends
Without integrity
It will be dark till the end

In love we can conquer
In truth we can trust
In thought we can overcome
Without truth it’s just lust

So if it’s hard
Or if it’s despair
Remember that you’re just
A pawn in life’s affair

So when we say goodbye
There is always a reason why
It cannot be helped
It’s not just a season

In making a choice
In choosing a side
Think not of some trend
But think of self pride

Without such moral
Without such insight
You can’t give up such truth
Without a fight

Commitments are one thing
Responsibilities are too true
How can we continue?
When integrity is so few

Deny yourself the answer
Take trust in a chancer
Then you know that your pride
Will be like a cancer

Take heed if you can
Take heed if you’re able
But remember or else
Your life’s but a fable

So here me when I say
Goodbyes are so grey
The hue is lost in lies
Unless we’re honest to this day

There’s no doubt in my mind
Good will suffice without fail
And we can all see ahead
And put the lies to bed

So think this one out
If you think you can rise
Goodbye’s are with honour
And not full of lies
