The Red Ribbon Poem by Jennifer Hartzell

The Red Ribbon

Slipping through the cracks
of what our lives seem to lack
The love that once was there
I can no longer bear

The indescribable stillness
that has created this illness
your words are disguised
as pretty red ribbon to hide the lies

Your words carry a weight
that I am no longer able to bear
the softness of your touch
is just not enough
Our passion has left
I don't want your second best

You're so innocent and unaware
oblivious to this wild love affair
this life taunts
what my heart wants

Happiness has no name
this life can no longer claim
what it pretends to be
heart ache is the only guarantee

Let this life go
we have nothing left to show
