The Remote Controlled Boat Poem by felix paintwhenpainted

The Remote Controlled Boat

the remote
speed along the lifeless boat
nobody drives this restless craft
not even the wind on a wooden shaft
the hull flies in the air and back on water lands
the empty cabin speeds away from peaceful silver sands
the waves froth and break
and swirl and twist in the vessels wake
every wave is another hill
as the stuttering engines work their fill
crests are broken and height is gained
then slid down the other side till no light remains
hills are climbed and won with steely speed
as the remorseless remote boat pushes forward without giving heed
another wave passes by the hull
beating the boat till its dead and null
no way or time to go back to an old time
the rudder was never used and is stuck with grime
the antenna sticks in the air. a hollow rod
as the signal fades out the boat begins to plod
the engines stop working their ceaseless hum
the flaking paint begins to crumb
a long narrow streak it cut
drove itself into this helpless rut
as the bow slows to a halt
where lay the final fault?
was it the boat that always did what it was told?
or the remote that could never loosen its hold...

once there was a boat in the currents starting to drift and twist
then it was lost forever in the final frosty myst
