The Rich Man's Daughter Poem by Biwot Kevin

The Rich Man's Daughter

Rating: 5.0

THE FIRST HYMN

i breathed the air that she also inhaled
'twas a blessing
my mind, my eyes and ears failed
my heart was racing
or could i even her presence near
or could i even her lovely hand hold
her power, her influence i did fear
i was poorer, but could she such poverty withhold?

of her beauty before i was told
'twas a lie
for even ethereal tales can never unfold
the lovely princess that i did spy
i dreamt with her my every night
she was an object of my every fantasy
when it was dark she gave me light
that i could see where few would see

and this i saw; 'twas her and me
'twas but paradise
kissing, holding in eternal glee
that now and then our blithed eyes
would meet; and she'd blush
and many times i'd call her an angel sweet
but with her lips on mine she'd say 'hush'
and i'd remain silent, her love possessing my wit

'twas then on cold monday morn
she walked on the path on which i walked
and my breath would have perchance gone
had not my friend my head knocked
i walked to her; she stood still
i was but ready my repute to soil
or didn't i love for her feel
or didn't my heart sometimes with passion boil

i told her that my heart needed her.
'twas futile,
that though with rhymes i pleaded her
she went away after a while
her voice lovely i never heard
her smile angelic was never exposed
my hopes were by rejection's inferno charred
and my book of love was by cupid closed
