The Royal Afgan Hotel Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

The Royal Afgan Hotel

' Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Get it out with Optrex..! '    Spike Milligan.

The Royal Afgan* Hotel           *(spelling as on hotel door)
                             Stands thinly in Old Delhi
                             Oh my, what a choice
                             With Mohan Pudni asleep
                             At reception deeply
The Royal Afgan with names from 1970
                             Fingered on old glass
And a three legged dog pissing
On the pillar of the front door
Without needing to lift a leg
Ah.. but you see its all free
                             After you pay the price
                             Here in India

                                 ______________

Next door at Jelebi Wallah shop
Sweet things cook in hot ghee
                             And Moheet the assistant
Has lost his front teeth to sugar rot
                             He laughs toothless not embarrassed
Next door you will be finding it
                             Is Royal Afgan isnt it
What manner of traveller has stayed
                             Who preceded Mohan Pudni
And how did the three legged dog
                             Learn to stand
With urgency, all of these things
                             I must know.
