The Second Time Around Poem by david lessard

The Second Time Around

Where were you all those years?
You were safe and hidden in my heart;
Thoughts of you were always with me,
Though not physically together,
we never were apart.

I 'd think of you and hoped you were okay,
I'd even thought to call and speak your name;
To let you know that I was fine and all right,
To let you know, there was no one to blame.

And then one day, I met you in Vermont,
Unexpected, beyond my wildest dreams;
But life and God have many strange surprises,
And love is never-ending, or so it seems.

This is the way it is, me and you and God,
Revolving through life's unumbered doors;
This is the way it is, and I now know it's true,
You were always mine and I was always yours.
