The Secret's In The Telling Poem by Jenn Kovel

The Secret's In The Telling

I loved your
Ears, for the simple reason
That
They heard me out
And heard me out
They did.
Maybe, call it a crush-
Intangible at best-
And I had fallen in love
With all the wrong parts.
However, dear,
I told your ears
Only things for ears to hear
That being,
Secrets that needed no
Heart to understand
Or to show
Love.
So,
Sometimes
I wish I could've
Told you my story
The way
I told your ringing ears
About my new
Shoes, the latest
High school gossip,
Or what I wanted to
Do when I finally
Had you
To myself.
Alas, telling
Secrets- an art
If ever there was one-
Requires the ear of
Someone
Who gives a damn
