The Select Few Poem by Weldon Davis

The Select Few

If the world blew up today
And only a select few
Survived

Would we cast aside our 'Identities'?
Would we cast aside our pride?

Could we begin to build again?
(Ask yourself)
Who would be the doctors?
Who would be the scientists?
Who would be the farmers?
Who would be the butchers?
(Who? ! !)

If the world blew up today
And only a select few
Survived

Would men still marry men?
-Or-
Women still marry women?

If our survival depended on it
Who would be the fathers?
Who would be the soldiers?
Who would be the leaders?
Who would keep order?
(Honestly)

If the world blew up today
And only a select few
Survived

Would politicians still push their agendas?
Would con men still push their schemes?
Would the media still weigh us down with propaganda?
Would the naysayers scoff at our dreams?
(I wonder)

Would every religion still preach that their 'Way'
Is the only way to salvation?

Who would be the poets? :)
Who would be the philosophers?
Who would be the teachers?
Who would be the scholars?
(Who among us would fill that void? ! !)

If the world blew up today
If the world blew up today

(Sadly)
The world blew up yesterday
Yeah.
The world is in pieces today
Nobody knows nothing
We're all caught up in the fray

We've taken our eyes off the relevant
All that is around us is in decay
-And-
We choose to ignore it

Either cause right now it doesn't effect us
-Or-
We feel there is nothing we can do
(There is...)

Act as if the survival
Of all of us depends on you
(Cause it does)

Act as if you're the last representative
For all of humanity
(Cause you are)

Make everyday count
Like it's our last
(Cause it is)

Hold yourself to a higher standard
So when the future generations
(Our children)
Will have a gauge to guide them

We can rebuild this broken world
It starts with us
Today
The chosen
The select few

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem as a challenge to the whole world to step up and make this (Our home) a better place...The people that make this world a decent place to live, are not only unappreciated, but are in short supply...
